01Simulator header → Simulator mode
Start a project and choose a mode
Use Lift Plan Mode to prepare your own site and rehearsal. Use Training Scenario Mode for exercises and guided objectives. The workflow follows project, site, crane, load, rigging, duty, rehearsal and review.
- Open the Lift Simulator from the training workspace. Use a desktop or laptop with a mouse, keyboard and a browser that supports 3D graphics. Sign in for account project saving and shared sessions.
- Select a scene object to show its parameters and rigging tools in the ribbon. Use Edit parameters for the selected plant model, the ribbon Move or Rotate buttons for placement, or Send to rigging editor for lifting equipment. Normal selection no longer opens the old lift-point menu.
- Choose Lift Plan Mode or Training Scenario Mode. Switching mode keeps the current model and rehearsal. Choosing a new environment or opening another project can replace the scene: save first.
- For your own project, choose New blank or Open an existing .LPP project. For practice, choose an environment and an exercise in Training Scenario Mode.
- Use Guide to follow the workflow one stage at a time. Use Menu · M for the main commands, Scene to return to the working view, and the ribbon for site and equipment tools. Scroll the ribbon horizontally if a tool is off-screen.
- Give the project a recognisable name with Save As, then save after each major setup stage.
A rehearsal illustrates movement and arrangements. It does not establish crane capacity, ground bearing capacity, structural adequacy or permission to lift. Use verified site and equipment information in the planning and review workflow.
Back to topics ↑02File bar → Open / Save / Save As / Download .LPP
Save, reopen and exchange projects
Keep an editable project as well as the drawings and videos you deliver.
- Use Save As to create a named account project. Use Save to update the current account project and check the status before leaving.
- Use Open to choose a saved project or import a local file through the file picker. Review any replacement prompt before proceeding.
- Use Download .LPP to keep a portable copy. Transfer that file when you need to continue on another computer. Keep a dated copy before major changes.
- A .LPP project keeps the scene, placements, layer visibility, site pin, work area and saved rehearsal data. Save again after editing these.
- A scene recipe is different: it stores the site-building choices and dimensions used to rebuild a mapped scene. It does not contain subsequently placed cranes or later object edits. Keep the .LPP file for those.
- MP4 and PNG files are presentation outputs. Reopen the .LPP project when you need to revise the model or motion.
Wait for a successful save message. A video download, a saved recipe or an open browser tab is not a substitute for saving the current project. Camera and headset device choices are session settings.
Back to topics ↑03Ribbon → View
Navigate the scene
Camera movement changes what you see without moving the equipment.
- Choose Orbit to rotate around the current view target. Left or middle drag orbits, right drag pans, and the mouse wheel zooms.
- Choose Pan for sideways scene navigation. Use the navigation buttons for smaller, repeatable view changes.
- Choose Walk for a 1.7 m eye-height view or Fly for free movement. Close the panel with Done, drag to look and use W/A/S/D to move. In Fly, Q lowers and E raises the camera.
- Use Plan, Front, Side, Focus crane, Focus hook or Fit whole scene to recover a useful view. In Site planner, Fit visible site and feature focus commands are useful on large mapped sites.
- Stop camera exploration before operating the crane. Enable controls returns crane operation to its normal camera mode.
Walk and Fly do not stop at walls, terrain or other objects. They are viewing tools, not a pedestrian access check. Keyboard focus in a text field or an open dialog can prevent movement commands.
Back to topics ↑04Ribbon → Site planner → Site context → Real site environment
Build Fawley, Conoco or Billingham
The prepared map-based environments are Fawley refinery, ConocoPhillips / Seal Sands & Greatham, and Billingham chemical works. They use public mapped features and supplementary imagery-derived structure envelopes.
- Save the current scene, then select the required Real site environment. Read its description and source notes to understand the area covered.
- Choose whether to Model unknown heights using the assumptions below. Enter building, tank / plant and tower heights and the width for roads without known widths. These values are metres.
- Enable Replace mapped volumes with BIM plant models if you want library plant instead of simple mapped volumes. Configure the model groups and dimensions before building.
- Select Build Fawley preview, Build Conoco preview or Build Billingham preview. Wait for the result and review the counts of source heights, estimated heights, assumed heights, unknown features and geometry notes.
- Review any retained or unclassified features. Correct model choices or dimension overrides and rebuild the preview when necessary.
- Choose Open [site] 3D scene to replace the current scene, or Download [site] .LPP to keep the generated environment as a separate project.
- Use Fit visible site or Whole site plot to orient yourself, then define a local crane work area before adding equipment.
A named site is not a complete or current asset inventory. Mapped geometry can be missing, dated or approximate. The scenes use flat local ground; surveyed terrain and buried-service geometry are not supplied. Conoco / Seal Sands and Billingham are separate site choices.
Back to topics ↑05Ribbon → ArcGIS / map; Site planner → Site context
Use ArcGIS and other site references
Use the map workspace to find a UK energy site or a location and establish geographic context. A site directory entry does not mean a complete 3D scene already exists for that location.
- Open ArcGIS / map and find the required location using the available site search or map controls. Check the site name and position before placing or importing a reference.
- Choose the reference area offered by the map tools. Review the import options and place the reference in the scene.
- Return to Site planner → Site context and check the named site reference and map origin. Use one consistent geographic reference for the working scene.
- Use Site builder for additional buildings and layout objects, and Plant for equipment that the public map does not describe.
- Use your site information to correct missing geometry, dimensions and levels. Keep a note of which dimensions are surveyed, source-reported, estimated or entered by you.
Imagery and terrain shown in a map are visual context; they are not automatically a surveyed 3D plant model. The prepared real-site builder and general map tools have different coverage. If a map service is unavailable, continue with a saved .LPP scene or the prepared site environment.
Back to topics ↑06Ribbon → Coordinates / pin
Navigate by latitude / longitude and drop a crane pin
Latitude and longitude use decimal degrees. Scene dimensions use metres: X is east, Y is up and Z is south. Y is height above the scene datum, not automatically height above sea level.
- For an unreferenced scene, enter the latitude and longitude of its local X0, Z0 point and choose Set scene geographic origin. Existing objects stay where they are; you are identifying the origin, not moving the model.
- Enter the destination latitude, longitude and Placement elevation. West longitudes are negative. Use Go to coordinates to move only the view.
- Choose Drop crane pin here to set the import location. Alternatively choose Pick pin in scene, then click the site at the entered elevation. Dragging does not drop a pin; Escape cancels picking.
- Keep Use pin when applying a crane from the library checked. Choose Import / configure crane at pin, select the crane and apply it.
- Check the imported crane position in plan and 3D. Use Move for final placement or heading changes.
- Save the .LPP project to keep the pin. Use Focus crane pin to return to it, or Remove crane pin when it is no longer needed.
Moving a pin does not move cranes already in the scene. Applying a library crane uses the enabled pin. A location value alone does not establish surveyed ground elevation. These tools work in all scenes once a valid geographic origin exists.
Back to topics ↑07Site planner → Site context or Equipment → Site plot & crane work area
Keep a whole-site plot and a local crane work area
Use the whole site for orientation and a smaller saved rectangle for detailed crane setup and plan sheets.
- Select Whole site plot for an overall plan or Whole site 3D for an oblique view.
- Enter Work-area width east–west and Work-area depth north–south, in metres. Enter the centre X, Y and Z, or use Centre on pin or Centre on selected crane.
- Choose Save work area. Copying a centre alone does not apply the rectangle.
- Switch between Local work-area plan and Local work-area 3D while positioning equipment. The view commands do not reposition the crane or other objects.
- Save the project. In Drawings & review, choose the whole-site, local-area or both plan-sheet options when preparing your drawing package.
The work-area rectangle is a framing aid. It does not establish an exclusion zone or prove clearance. A local drawing crops context; retain a whole-site sheet when the audience needs to see how the work area fits into the site.
Back to topics ↑08Real site environment → BIM models and dimensions
Choose BIM models and import dimensions
BIM replacement uses map classifications to choose a library model group. It creates dimension-driven representative plant at mapped positions.
- Enable Replace mapped volumes with BIM plant models and expand BIM models and dimensions.
- Expand each relevant group and choose its model. Use Keep mapped geometry when a replacement would be inappropriate. For buildings, Detailed building / keep exact footprint preserves the mapped outline.
- Enter Top height, Length / diameter, Width and Heading where needed. Blank dimensions use the map footprint and height choices. A group override applies to all matching features in that group.
- Use diameter for a round tank. A non-circular footprint may require an explicit diameter before a tank replacement is possible.
- Build the preview and inspect the review list. Use per-feature choices to correct an individual feature or keep its mapped geometry, then rebuild.
- Download a scene recipe to reuse the import choices. Open or download the generated .LPP scene to keep the actual resulting models.
These are LPP library models, not automatic identification of the exact manufacturer equipment on the site. Whole-site views may show lighter silhouettes; closer views show more detail. Source heights normally take priority until you enter a dimension override.
Back to topics ↑09Ribbon → Plant; Site planner → Equipment → Detailed industrial BIM modules
Add detailed plant, chimneys and cooling towers
Add missing plant manually or use detailed industrial modules for process equipment, pipe racks and heat-exchanger arrangements.
- Drop a placement pin if required, then open Detailed industrial BIM modules in Site planner → Equipment.
- Choose the Detailed plant model and enter Length, Height and Width in metres. The module controls accept dimensions from 0.1 to 100 m.
- Choose Place detailed module at pin. With no active pin, the module is placed at the scene origin. Use Move to position and rotate it.
- To revise a detailed module, select that object, enter the revised dimensions and choose Update selected detailed module. Its base and placement are retained.
- Use Plant for the wider equipment catalogue, including tanks, vessels, chimneys, stack support steel and cooling towers. Review the selected model and its dimensions before applying it.
- Inspect pipework, platforms, stairs and neighbouring equipment from several views, then save the project.
Fittings and arrangements are representative. Detailed appearance is not evidence of mass, lifting points, internal construction or structural strength. Locked or connected objects can restrict editing; review the message before changing them.
Back to topics ↑10Move or Site planner → Height by object
Re-edit the height of one object
Change one building or plant item while keeping its base position and neighbouring objects unchanged.
- Search for the object by name or map ID in Height by object and choose it from the Object list.
- Check the selected name, current height and base Y so you know you are editing the intended item.
- Enter Object height in metres. If the item is locked and the option is offered, choose Make only this locked object editable.
- Choose Apply height to this object. Inspect the result from a side view and use Undo object edit if needed.
- For a detailed industrial module, use Update selected detailed module when you need to change length or width as well. Save the .LPP project after the edit.
Some imported or assembled models are vertically scaled rather than rebuilt component by component. Geometry changes can clear existing mass or attachment evidence; review the affected lifting information again before using the object as a load.
Back to topics ↑11Ribbon → Move
Move and rotate objects precisely
Use modelling handles or numeric positions for one object or a group of objects.
- The starter walkthrough opens when you launch the simulator. Close it at any time or reopen it with Walkthrough in the ribbon. New practice scenes start with the load grounded and disconnected, ready for positioning. Hover or focus controls for tooltips, including while setup panels are open.
- Stop crane operation, open Move and choose the Primary object. Expand Select multiple objects when several items must move together.
- New refinery and tandem practice plant is editable. For a connected practice crane or load, choose Ground and detach for placement beside the object selector. Position the equipment, then reconnect the load for lifting. Undo restores the setup change.
- Choose Move or Rotate directly in the ribbon or use the fixed buttons at the top of the placement panel. Y / heading sets the crane direction in degrees. Set Handle axes to World / site or Local / object. Select Free or an increment for movement or rotation.
- Drag arrows to translate or rings to rotate. For numeric placement, enter X, Y, Z in metres and rotations in degrees, then choose Apply placement.
- Use Centre selection to bring the chosen object into view. Use Nudge along site axes for small adjustments.
- For multiple objects, confirm the primary object: rotation pivots about it. Use Undo last edit or Redo edit to correct a placement.
- If a lock prevents editing, review the selection before using Unlock selection and layers. That command also unlocks the selected objects’ layers.
Connected loads and other restricted objects may not be movable through setup tools. Do not confuse moving a model during site setup with operating a crane during a rehearsal. Escape cancels an active handle drag.
Back to topics ↑12Ribbon → Layers
Hide layers and individual parts
The collapsible layer tree controls what appears in the scene and helps prepare drawing views without deleting geometry.
- Search for a layer, object name, model or map ID. Expand the required layer to see its parts; use Show more parts for long lists.
- Clear the layer checkbox to hide the whole group. Clear an individual part checkbox to hide just that item.
- Use Only to isolate one layer. Show all layers restores layer visibility but does not re-enable individually hidden parts.
- If a checked part is still invisible, turn its parent layer back on. Collapse layers when you have finished to keep the panel tidy.
- Use Drawing plan view, check the visible geometry, and capture the intended drawing. Restore relevant context before reviewing routes or obstructions.
- Use Undo visibility / edit if needed and save the .LPP project to retain the visibility choices.
Visibility and geometry locking are separate. Hidden objects remain in the saved project, but checks and renderings based on visible geometry can omit them. The fictional campus backdrop has its own switch when available.
Back to topics ↑13Site planner → Site context → Explore mapped site
Find mapped assets and show road names
Use mapped feature names and IDs to navigate large sites such as Fawley.
- Enter a name or map ID in Find building, tank or road. Filter by feature type to reduce the list.
- Choose the feature and inspect its height or width basis. Source-reported, imagery estimate, storey estimate, assumption and user-entered values have different meanings.
- Choose Focus feature or Feature plan view. If the feature is hidden, enable its layer and part first.
- Choose Add mapped road names or Refresh road names, then enable Show road names. Use the road-label layer to hide labels for a particular drawing.
- Use View original map feature when you need to inspect the source record.
Only names or references available in the map source can be labelled. An unnamed road is not given an invented name. Search results are limited for performance; narrow the search when necessary.
Back to topics ↑14Ribbon → Routes
Plan access and delivery routes in the scene
Create a saved route with waypoints, a purpose and a visible corridor width.
- Choose New route, enter a Route name and select Crane access, Equipment delivery or Pedestrian route.
- Enter Corridor width and Click plane elevation in metres. Choose Plan view for easier placement.
- Select Pick waypoints in scene and click in route order. Use Finish picking or Escape to stop adding points. Alternatively enter East X, Elevation Y and South Z under Add waypoint by coordinates.
- Use Edit to replace a waypoint, the up arrow to reorder it or × to remove it. Use Reverse route to reverse the direction.
- Review the waypoint count, route length and elevation change. Choose Save route to scene; a draft is not yet a saved route.
- Choose Export waypoints CSV if required, then save the .LPP project. To revise later, select the route under Saved route, edit and save it again.
The shaded corridor represents the width you entered. It is not a vehicle swept-path calculation or an automatic clearance assessment. Drawing-sheet route arrows are separate annotations; see Drawings and site plot symbols.
Back to topics ↑15Ribbon → Cranes; operator station → Active crane
Select, position and configure a crane
Set up the crane and its equipment before enabling motion.
- Set the crane pin or establish a local work area, then open Cranes. Choose the appropriate library model and review the equipment and configuration choices available for it.
- Apply the crane and check its location. Use Move for scene placement and heading. Select the intended crane in Active crane if more than one is present.
- Review available boom, jib, attachments and fleet appearance options. Use Anatomy to inspect the model and configuration where supported.
- Use Deploy crane and the available outrigger controls as appropriate to the selected model. Travel is available only for cranes with a road-travel model.
- Check the model in plan, side and hook views. Review the lift plan and duty information before connecting a load or rehearsing.
- For Big Carl, use luff / boom and hoist controls for boom angle and rope movement. Telescope controls are unavailable on a crane without a telescopic boom.
A rendered crane or a successful motion does not validate a lifting duty. Crane capabilities and available controls differ by model. Always check which crane is active before operating.
Back to topics ↑16Ribbon → Rigging; operator station → Rigging editor / load and Tandem setup
Set up a load, rigging and tandem operation
Configure the load and hook connections before rehearsing a lift.
- Choose the intended training load or selected plant item. Open Rigging editor / load and review the load properties, sling arrangement and tackle available in the editor.
- Apply the rigging configuration, then inspect it in 3D and from the hook view. Confirm the intended attachment points and load identity.
- Use Connect load only after the arrangement is ready. Single-crane operation connects only the active crane. To connect a pair, choose Active crane and Second crane, then enable Selected pair / same command or Local / two controllers. Use Detach / ground when returning the load to the scene.
- For a tandem exercise, add two cranes, choose Tandem setup and configure the shared load and both hook connections. Check the active crane and each connection before moving.
- Revisit load and rigging information after resizing or changing a plant model. Save the project with the final arrangement.
Generic site plant may not have verified mass or lifting-point evidence. Do not infer either from appearance. Tandem animation and load sharing require engineering review beyond the visual rehearsal.
Back to topics ↑17Operator station; ribbon → Xbox / voice
Operate with keyboard, mouse or Xbox controller
Crane movement requires an active crane and enabled controls. Stop before opening setup tools or changing equipment.
- Select Active crane and Lift mode, then Enable controls. With mouse or touch, hold a motion button to move and release it to stop.
- In Lift mode, W / S luffs the boom up / down; A / D slews left / right; E / Q extends / retracts a telescopic boom; R / F raises / lowers the hoist line. Shift gives precision movement. Space stops.
- For supported Travel mode, W / S drives forward / reverse and A / D steers. Hoist and telescope actions are not available as travel controls.
- Connect an Xbox controller and press a controller button so the browser detects it. Open Test Xbox / joystick inputs while controls are stopped.
- During crane operation, hold LB. The left stick operates boom / slew, triggers operate the hoist, and D-pad left / right operates the telescope where supported. Hold RB for precision. B or Start stops.
- Adjust the stick dead zone if an idle stick drifts. For a nonstandard joystick, use Custom joystick mapping, test the assigned axes and buttons, then enable the mapping.
- If movement stops at a simulator limit, the amber status message names the crane and the affected control. Reverse that control, or raise the hook or boom when hook clearance is limiting movement. These are visual rehearsal limits, not manufacturer-rated capacity checks.
- Outside crane operation, camera controls use the sticks. Check the on-screen mode and help before using shared keys or sticks.
A disabled button can indicate a missing crane, unsupported capability, stopped controls, open dialog or restricted shared-session role. Losing focus stops operator input. Crane-specific limits still apply.
Back to topics ↑18Operator station → Two-player operation
Use two controllers or an invited operator
Two-player operation supports two cranes locally or an invited remote operator.
- For local use, choose Active crane and Second crane, then connect two controllers and enable Local / two controllers. Controller 1 operates the active crane and controller 2 operates the selected second crane; hold LB on each controller. Additional site cranes stay stationary. Changing either selection stops controls. For one operator moving the pair together, use Selected pair / same command instead.
- For online use, both operators sign in. The host chooses Host online and shares the private invitation code with the intended operator.
- The invited operator enters the code under Join invitation and chooses Join as Crane B. Wait for the connection status before trying to operate.
- The host manages site setup and shared scene changes. Coordinate who moves which crane before rehearsing.
- Choose Disconnect when finished. Starting another room closes the previous invitation.
An online invitation shares the simulation model with the invited operator. Network conditions can prevent a direct connection; a generated code alone does not prove a connected session.
Back to topics ↑19Ribbon → Guide / Xbox / voice
Follow guided exercises and use narration
The workflow guide and mission objectives help organise practice and review.
- Choose a workflow stage, read its instruction and use the associated action to open the relevant tool.
- In Training Scenario Mode, complete the mission action before checking the objective. Use Previous or Next to review the sequence.
- Choose a Narration voice and select Read this step to play guidance. Automatic reading of new steps is optional.
- Choose Voice command for a spoken command when available and grant the browser microphone permission if you want to use it. Read the listed commands and microphone information in the panel.
- Use Text only when you do not need audio. Browser voice and browser voice commands use the computer/browser default sound devices.
Moving to the next stage is not a completed engineering check or approval. Practice XP and mission completion do not award an occupational qualification. Derek voiceover can be used in prepared recordings; live conversion of your speech into Derek is not currently provided.
Back to topics ↑20Bottom recording bar → Record video
Record a live scene video with webcam
Record the 3D scene live at 3840 × 2160, including crane and load movement and your orbit, pan and zoom. Ribbons, menus and controls are excluded.
- Set up your site and camera view. For a presenter inset, enable the camera and your backdrop in Webcam / headset first.
- Choose Record video. Select Include webcam and selected backdrop if wanted. Select Record selected headset microphone to narrate live using your chosen input device.
- For a long recording, leave Save directly to file selected in Chrome or Edge. Choose an MP4 save location and start. The panel closes so you can work in the simulator.
- Enable crane controls when you want to operate. Move the crane, orbit, pan and zoom as normal. Video recording continues through camera changes and menus, even when crane controls are stopped. There is no application duration or total-file-size cutoff when saving directly to file.
- Press Stop video when finished. Wait for the saved-file and 3840 × 2160 verification message, then review the video. Keep the page open until saving finishes.
Live webcam and microphone are recorded at the same time as the scene when selected. Keep the simulator tab visible while recording. Available disk space and device performance still apply; 4K targets 30 frames per second. If direct file saving is unavailable, download-on-stop uses up to 512 MB of browser memory. Use Chrome or Edge with direct file saving for longer recordings.
Back to topics ↑21Bottom recording bar; ribbon → MP4 · 4K
Record an editable rehearsal and export 4K MP4
Record crane motion and camera movement first, then render the finished rehearsal as a scene video.
- Finish site, crane and load setup. Choose Rehearsal + enable controls and perform the rehearsal. Orbit, pan and zoom are recorded with the crane movement. The timeline extends until you choose End rehearsal or Stop.
- Use Replay to review from the first recorded pose to the last. Replay stops at the end and holds the final pose; choose Replay to watch again. Stop or Space pauses immediately at the current pose. New live recordings preserve smooth slewing across the rotation boundary; authored full turns and older recordings retain their existing interpolation. The legacy keyframe editor provides access to existing keyframes and playback controls when available.
- Stop recording and playback before exporting. Choose a perspective scene view and open MP4 · 4K.
- Check the recorded duration. Optionally select Include enabled webcam and backdrop or Record selected headset microphone during export. Both are off by default.
- Choose Create MP4 · 4K. Keep the tab active while the rehearsal renders. If microphone narration is selected, speak while it renders; that speech is captured live now.
- Wait for MP4 ready, review the finished preview and choose Download MP4 · 4K. Save the editable project separately if you will revise the rehearsal.
The video frame is 3840 × 2160 and targets 30 frames per second; achieved smoothness depends on the scene and device. Webcam input is a 720p source inset into the 4K frame. Saved crane poses do not contain historical microphone speech or webcam video. Rehearsal export holds up to 512 MB in browser memory. For long videos, use Record video with direct file saving. Ribbons, menus and controls are excluded. Older saved rehearsals without camera tracks use the view selected before export.
Back to topics ↑22Menu · M → Drawings & review → drawing tools
Capture drawings and add site plot symbols
Prepare the visible model, capture the required plan sheets, then annotate the drawing layout.
- Save the project and stop motion. Use Layers to show the geometry needed for the drawing and hide distracting context. Check that relevant equipment is still visible.
- Set the local work area if you need a detailed crane setup plan. Open Drawings & review and review the plan information before capturing sheets.
- Choose whole-site, local-area or both plan sheets where offered. Local-area capture frames the saved work-area rectangle; other crane and rigging sheets retain the complete arrangement.
- In the drawing sheet’s Site plot ribbon, choose a route arrow for access directions, a filled polygon for a plant or working area, or a planning symbol.
- Place the points for the route or shape and finish the pending path before saving or exporting. Adjust colour and fill opacity so the underlying plan remains readable. Reverse a route arrow when its direction is wrong.
- Use the available crane, access, laydown, plant, exclusion, assembly and north symbols. Position and edit them on the sheet, and label their meaning for the reader.
- Review the sheet at the intended paper size, save the drawing layout and export the PDF. Keep the editable project and layout for later revisions.
Drawing marks describe the plan; they do not create physical site restrictions. Check dimensions, scale, north orientation and cropped context before issuing a drawing. A screenshot or ray-traced image is not a dimensioned drawing sheet.
Back to topics ↑23Ribbon → Ray tools
Inspect obstructions and render ray-traced images
Use a straight-line surface test for inspection or export a still image with reflected light and shadows.
- For object selection, choose Pick object with ray and click a visible model.
- For a line test, enter Start and End X, Y and Z values in metres, or use Pick start surface and Pick end surface. Choose Check line for obstructions and read the result and line length.
- Show the relevant layers before checking. Hidden geometry is excluded. Use another viewpoint to inspect any reported intersection.
- For a still image, frame the desired camera view and choose 1280 × 720, 1920 × 1080 or 3840 × 2160 / 4K.
- Choose 16 samples for a quick preview, 32 for standard or 64 for cleaner reflections. Select Render ray-traced PNG and keep the tab visible.
- Wait for the completed preview and choose Download ray-traced PNG. If the site is too large, hide distant context and render the local work area.
A line test is not a swept-load or full-volume clearance check and cannot detect missing underground services. Ray tracing produces a still image; the interactive simulator keeps its normal renderer. Labels and drawing overlays are omitted from the ray-traced image.
Back to topics ↑24Ribbon → Cast / TV
Cast the full workflow to a smart TV
Connect the TV through your computer or browser, then present LPP. The connected-display list only lists displays already attached to the computer.
- For a compatible Windows wireless display, enable the TV’s Screen mirroring / Miracast mode, press Windows + K, choose the TV and follow the connection prompts. Windows + P → Duplicate mirrors the complete desktop.
- For Google Cast / Chromecast, open LPP in Chrome on the same Wi-Fi as the TV. Use Chrome’s Cast menu. Choose Cast tab for this browser workspace or Cast screen when showing other windows as well.
- For a Mac and AirPlay-compatible TV, use Control Centre → Screen Mirroring. For HDMI, connect the cable, choose the TV input and configure Duplicate or Extend in display settings.
- Once the TV shows the computer, choose Full workflow fullscreen in LPP. Continue site setup, editing, rehearsal and drawing review from your computer.
- For an already-connected extended TV, use Choose connected display and select the second display if the browser supports it. If only the current display appears, complete the TV connection first.
- Press Esc to exit fullscreen. End casting through Windows, Chrome or AirPlay separately; Esc does not disconnect the TV.
LPP does not directly discover wireless TVs or confirm a casting connection. TV resolution and audio depend on the selected connection. Full-screen mirroring can also show other windows and notifications, so prepare the desktop before presenting.
Back to topics ↑25Ribbon → Webcam / headset
Use your webcam and professional office backdrop
Show yourself in a presenter strip below the ribbon while demonstrating the site workflow.
- Select the Webcam device and choose Professional office, Plain studio, Blur room or Original camera / no backdrop.
- Choose Enable webcam and grant camera permission if prompted. Wait for the camera and selected backdrop to become ready.
- Use Mirror presenter view if desired. Improve front lighting and keep your face clear for cleaner background edges.
- Choose Done to close the settings and continue working. The camera stays on in its reserved presenter strip, which is visible when the workspace is cast.
- Choose Turn camera off to release it. Selecting a different camera stops the previous one; enable the new camera when ready.
- To include yourself in an exported rehearsal, enable the webcam first, then select Include enabled webcam and backdrop in MP4 · 4K.
Backdrop processing happens locally. If the processor cannot start, the camera image stays covered until you choose another option. Background separation depends on lighting and movement; it is not a guarantee that every room pixel will be hidden.
Back to topics ↑26Webcam / headset → Logitech Zone / audio devices
Use a Logitech Zone headset
Choose microphone input and supported narration output separately.
- Connect the Zone using its supported USB receiver, USB cable or Bluetooth connection. Choose Refresh devices.
- Run Test microphone and grant permission if prompted; device names may be unavailable before permission. Choose Select detected Zone headset, or select the input manually.
- Speak and watch the Microphone input level meter. The test stops after 15 seconds and neither records audio nor plays it back through speakers.
- Choose Narration output and select Play headset test tone. In browsers that cannot choose an output, select the Zone in computer sound settings.
- Set the Zone as the computer/browser default device too if using browser speech or voice commands. Natural AI and recorded guidance use the selected narration output where supported.
- For your own narration in a video, select Record selected headset microphone during export, then speak while the rehearsal renders.
Headset hardware mute and call buttons remain controlled by the headset. Device selection does not provide automatic live voice conversion. Verify the microphone meter and output tone on your own hardware before presenting.

Troubleshoot common problems
Save or download the current project before reloading or replacing a scene.
- Scene fails to load: read the error, check connectivity and try a saved .LPP file or New blank. A site or crane asset that fails to load is not a completed import. Preserve your current work before retrying.
- Drawing says Error capturing: stop motion, show the required layers, frame the whole site or a saved local work area and retry. For large sites, reduce distant visible context. If it persists, retain the project and report the site, sheet type and exact error.
- Object cannot move or resize: check selection, object and layer locks, and load connections. Use the per-object height option when you want to unlock only one item. Do not unlock a whole layer unintentionally.
- Object or road name is missing: check both layer and individual part visibility. Narrow the feature search. Road names depend on source map names; unknown heights may remain linework when assumptions are disabled.
- Big Carl boom or rope does not move: check Active crane, Lift mode and Enable controls, close setup dialogs, then try the on-screen luff and line buttons. Test controller input separately. Telescope buttons are not applicable to a non-telescopic crane.
- MP4 export unavailable: record a rehearsal with duration, stop recording and playback, choose a perspective view and retry. Keep the tab active. If graphics memory runs out, hide distant layers. Review the browser’s reported recording support error rather than renaming a different file type to MP4.
- Ray-traced image fails: reduce the visible scene, try 720p and 16 samples, and follow any message about unsupported model types. Hide the identified layer and retry if appropriate.
- Camera or microphone unavailable: check browser site permissions, the selected device and other applications using it. Reconnect the device and refresh the list. A backdrop error keeps the image covered; choose another backdrop or stop the camera.
- TV list shows only this screen: connect through Windows + K, Chrome Cast, AirPlay or HDMI first. A mirrored display may not appear as a separate extended screen. Check the actual TV image.

Complete a site setup and hand it over
Use this sequence for a repeatable site setup demonstration or project review.
- Create and name the project. Choose a prepared site or establish the map reference. Review height assumptions and missing context.
- Build and inspect the scene. Apply BIM choices, correct individual objects, show road names and save.
- Enter coordinates, drop the crane pin and save a local work area. Import and configure the crane at the pin.
- Position plant and equipment, check relevant dimensions and plan access routes. Set up the load, rigging and any tandem connections.
- Review the plan and configuration. Rehearse with the selected controls, record the motion and replay it.
- Prepare layers and plan views. Capture the site and local-area drawings, add route arrows, filled areas and symbols, then review and export.
- Create the 4K MP4 and optional ray-traced still. For a presentation, test the TV, webcam backdrop and headset before showing the full workflow.
- Save the final .LPP project, retain the recipe where useful, and keep the drawings and video alongside the editable project. State which dimensions or site features still need verification.
